Tricky Stewart (108,491)
by Bobby A from United States

Tricky Stewart just completed Tamar Braxton's whole new album coming this summer. His production is top notch and that is why MC adores him. Could he do the same for MC since they worked so well before? Of course, without The-Dream this time.

Oh I know all pre Butterfly stuff since I am a fan from 1990 but when I heard Fantasy with ODB and then Butterfly with Honey Bad Boy Remix, Breakdown with The Mo Thugs Remix and then Glitter with all the Hip Hop influence and so on I realized that I liked that Mariah more instead of belting ballads Mariah and such. It came to that, that I rarely listen to the first three albums any more.

You're missing out on a lot of great pre-Butterfly music. I tend to prefer pre-Butterfly MC, but that doesn't stop me from finding those gems post Butterfly. I'd be missing out on a lot of great stuff. Just sayin'.

You all are missing out on the best version of Fantasy. It is the Bad Boy Mix which I think is track 4 on the maxi-single. It has both the pop hook and ODB on it. It's the only one I listen to. I love Honey with Mase and The Lox. I hate the Jermaine Dupri remix. I love Gucci Mane on Obsessed. I love both The Roof extended Mobb Deep and Breakdown extended Bobe Thugs. I love the Nicki Minaj verse on Up Out My Face. My All/Stay Awhile with the rap is also a favorite.

Even though I like the O.D.B. remix of Fantasy, I've always preferred the album version. It was the first version I heard, and without that epic soothing intro, the remix just doesn't have the same impact.
As for Heartbreaker, I prefer the version featuring Jay-Z. The non-rap version stills sounds great to me, but without his verse, it feels like it's missing something.

I tend to stray away from the hip-hop stuff. That said there are some collabos that I can't fight and pull me back to that side of MC.
Fantasy Heartbreaker Crybaby It's Like That (with Mr. Fatman at the end) My All/Stay Awhile (I prefer the no rap one)

I was talking to someone the other day about how I felt the ODB version of "Fantasy" is a bit overrated and played out. It's the one that everyone knows - I actually quite like the original version and the House remix more. Though I do appreciate the "Me and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers" line. I use that one a lot. What do you all think? Favorite Mariah hip-hop collaborations/remixes? These would be my 10 favorites
1. My All/Stay Awhile (So So Def Remix) 2. The Roof (Mobb Deep Extended) 3. Breakdown (Mo Thugs Version) 4. Crybaby 5. Always Be My Baby (So So Def Remix) 6. Underneath the Stars (Drifting Remix) 7. I Still Believe/Pure Imagination 8. Honey (So So Def Remix) 9. Thank God I Found You (Make It Last Remix) 10. Heartbreaker (DJ Clue Remix)
I never really cared for "I Know What You Want" with Busta Rhymes. And I still feel like Mariah's golden period for these collaborations was that 1997-2000 period.

Totally fair. I just find the Fantasy Remix very "cut and paste" in terms of Mariah's remixes whereas the hip-hop remixes for songs like My All, Always Be My Baby, Heartbreaker, Thank God I Found You and Honey (So So Def) were re-sung, re-recorded, and re-written with new samples in an incredibly creative way. I also just find Wu-Tang Clan and ODB a bit overrated in comparison to other hip-hop acts from the 1990s. I particularly appreciated Mariah pulling in Missy Elliott and Da Brat on the Heartbreaker remix for an answer to Snoop Dogg's "Ain't No Fun".

I'm all up in my feelings with "Can't Let Go", "Can't Take that Away", and "My All/Stay Awhile".
"Can't Let Go" is hitting especially hard (particularly the Soul Train performance) due to certain men who are sending mixed, hot/cold signals.

I like Music Box too. All I Ever Wanted is a very underrated ballad. I first heard Mariah on VH1 (when they actually played videos, lol,) with Hero. That song hooked me on MC and Daydream reeled me in. But MB will always hold a special place with me because of that experience.

Reading this article is just too much. I am on MC's side. Wasn't it after her book was released and Morgan's lawsuit that we found out MC's relationship with her mother had become strained? Prior to her book being released, MC was on good terms with her mother. Is that correct? I wonder if Morgan while visiting Patricia in Florida upset her about was in MC's book.

All this drama from Morgan and the late Alison. Surely it would have just been easier to stay friends with Mariah, I'm sure she wouldn't have seen them out of pocket. But no they wanted more and became greedy. Now they won't get a single penny from her. Must be awful when your own family sees you as a paycheque. Had they not gone down the path they have I'm sure they would have led a comfortable life courtesy of Mariah, but people always want more and more.

You know one of the most interesting things to come out of the Oprah interview in 2020, was when they talked about the duality of famous people's relatives feeling both entitled to handouts and hateful jealousy that their family member doesn't deserve what they get. I really feel as though MC would've given her family the world. Now I will happily say MC loves yes people, sycophants around her. With family she just wanted a degree of loyalty and I think Pat, Alison and Morgan disappointed and hurt her deeply. I hate to see him put her through this.
